Cats And Home Euthanasia

At home dog euthanasia

Let’s talk about cats and home euthanasia

There are roughly the same number of cat owners in the UK as dog owners. For me, as a cat owning vet one of the saddest things is that only about a fifth of the home visits I do for are for cats. This means that for most cats their final moments are stressful. This need not be the case.

Cats, even the ones that lie quietly lie in their cage find going to vets extremely stressful. Home euthanasia has emerged as a compassionate alternative to traditional clinic visits, offering a peaceful passing tailored to a cat’s needs.

Cats are territorial and very sensitive to environments that are unfamiliar. Home visits eliminate the anxiety of cat cages, car travel and veterinary clinics.

The final moments, when you opt for home euthanasia allow your cat to pass in a favourite place, whether that be your lap, a sunny spot in the window or their bed; relaxed and at ease.

Having your cat put to sleep at home allows privacy for you and your family. Other pets and family members can say their goodbyes.

As a practising vet of over 30 years’ experience the decision to say “Goodbye” at home is, I believe, one the kindest things you can do.

Whilst home euthanasia won’t take away the sadness it will remove the trauma of that final trip to the vets for both you and your cat.
